くぎ【釘】

a nail; 〔パチンコの〕 a pin; 〔枕木用の〕 a spike; 〔靴の底などに用いるくさび形の〕 a sparable; 〔無頭釘〕 a sprig; 〔平頭釘〕 a tack; 〔曲頭釘〕 a brad; 〔綴り釘〕 a rivet; 〔木釘〕 a peg.

●釘が利いている[いない]. The nail is fast [loose].

・釘がよく利かない. The nail doesn't hold well.

●(箱のふたなどを)釘で打ちつける nail down

・表札を釘で打ちつける nail a nameplate 《on [to] the door》.
